TRASH AND RECYCLING INFORMATION

PICK UP SCHEDULE*:

PICK UP SCHEDULE*: TRASH & RECYCLING: THURSDAY

BULK TRASH: LAST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH

Trash Toters and Recycle Toters should be set out for collection on Wednesday (the day before collection) and no toters shall remain at the curb after 10:00 PM on Thursday (the day of collection).

*Pick up Thanksgiving Week will be on Friday, November 24th, 2017.  Please check the homepage of our website for schedule change announcements.


Trash (Refuse) 
All trash set out for collection must be placed in the Borough-issued toter. Trash outside of the toter will not be collected. If you have extra trash that you would like collected, please contact A.J. Blosenski at 1-800-343-6583 to schedule a special pick-up. 

We DO NOT COLLECT Freon items (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers) Tires, any form of construction debris, will NOT be collected. Please call A.J. Blosenski at 1-800-343-6583 to schedule removal of these items. 

OLD/UNWANTED RECYCLE BINS are to be put out for trash, and must be in the toter.

NO TREE LIMBS/BRANCHES. This material will be collected by the Borough (by appointment only) on the 2nd Monday of the Month. (See the Public Works page on the website for more info)

NO YARD WASTE: Yard waste can be deposited in the marked dumpster next to the Public Works building. No bags or branches may be put in this dumpster. Leaves are collected each fall by the Public Works Department.


Bulk Trash
A bulk item is a single item that cannot fit into the toter or weighs more than 60 pounds, but can be handled by 2 men. Bulk items are collected the the last Thursday of every month. You may place 1 bulk item out with your toter. Each property is permitted to place 1 bulk item such as a stove, sofa, mattress, or rolled rug. No extra trash containers or bags may be set out for bulk collection during this week. If you have extra trash that you would like collected, please contact A.J. Blosenski at 1-800-343-6583 to schedule a special pick-up. 

Covered devices, such as computers, laptops, monitors and televisions cannot be put out for trash collection. See bottom of page for more info.


Recycling
All recycling set out for collection must be placed in the Borough-issued recycling toter. Recycling outside of the toter will not be collected. The Borough allows single stream recycling which means all paper fibers, plastics, metals, and other containers can be put together in the recycling toter.

Recyclable Materials:

Glass: clear/brown/green glass bottles and jars only;

Plastic: soda, water or detergent bottles, milk or water jugs, marked with 1 through 7 on the bottom; NO PLASTIC BAGS!

Aluminum: beverage cans only;

Bi-Metal cans: food or beverage can only;

Paper: newspaper Inserts, magazines, corrugated cardboard, cardboard, junk mail, wrapping paper, regular mail, brown grocery bags, office paper, phone books, paperback & hardback books.

NO: waxed Paper, waxed Cartons, frozen food boxes, plastic Inserts, plastic bags; No broken or window glass, light bulbs, mirrors, porcelain, ceramics or blue glass; No antifreeze/motor oil bottles, no cans with plastic or paper parts, no paint or aerosol cans.

Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Disposal


Due to the Pennsylvania Covered Device Recycling Act which addresses the recycling and disposal of certain electronic devices in Pennsylvania,  the hauler can no longer accept E-waste as a bulk/trash item. E-Waste is: Desktop/laptop computers, monitors, printers, copiers, televisions (both with cathode ray tube and non-CRT), answering machines, camcorders, cell phones, laptop docking stations, electric typewriters, fax/copy machines, microwaves, radios, pagers, remote controls, gaming consoles, stereo/tape/CD players, telephones & equipment, toner/ink cartridges, and VCR/DVD players.

The CCSWA/Lanchester Landfill is taking televisions, computers and peripherals and microwaves at this time. Contact them at 610-273-3771.
